I have had my eye on the Coffee x Spud action at Hipo Coffee for some time now. Every time I walk up Carlton Street at Lunchtime past the cafe I see a board offering a Jacket Spud and a drink and remember I want to check it out. Today was the day I finally came and didn’t pass by

The Lunch Offer comes in two parts, you can get a Spud with any two fillings for £4 or a Meal Deal which is the same but with a drink added for £5.50.
I was going to take the meal deal with a cup of tea so I was already a sweet 50p up, maybe I should have had a Mocha then I would be up over a quid 😍
Toppings or Fillings wise you can get many of the expected classics, Tuna and Cheese, Chilli and Cheese, or Beans and Cheese. All of which float my boat in the world of jacket spuds.
Getting slightly more interesting they offer ones topped with Beef Bolognese, Chickpea Curry and Three Bean Chilli, all perfectly acceptable in my mind.
I don’t know who is getting coleslaw or Branston pickle but there must be a market for it or it wouldn’t be on the list. If that is you let me know in the comments 😎
BEEF CHILLI WITH CHEESE
You get a really good portion of beef chilli on your potato and there was enough cheese mixed into the potato with the butter to moisten the spud. I personally like my cheese on top of the chilli so if I came back again I would remember to request it that way
TUNA AND CHEESE
Tuna and Cheese is an absolute classic combination as a topping on a baked potato. Again they portion size is very generous and on this one we could at least see some of the cheese as it overflowed into the tray
With both spuds the most pleasing part was that the skin was nice and crispy on the base. I like to eat the skin and prefer it when the potato has been cooked in an oven as opposed to being microwaved so that you get that nice bit of char as you eat the last few bites
I was very happy that we chose to check out Hipo Coffee. The deal was a very good one, decent jacket potatoes and good generous portions for the toppings. I liked that you can eat inside as well, often I get my spud from one of the vans dotted around town and then you have to sit on a bench to scoff it. On a day like this it was very nice to be inside in the warm. 😎
