The Old Parlour Cafe at Spring Lane opened recently housed in the Old barn that sat alongside the Farms Shop. It feels like it has been a long time coming as plans were announced last year for an Autumn opening and since then I have been awaiting in eager anticipation to visit
This weekend we made plans to come and try a breakfast, one of my favourite meals, so headed up to Spring Lane Farm shop to grab one. It seemed that we were not the only ones with the same idea. The car park was full and the cafe was rammed, there was going to be quite a wait for a table and for the food as they were so busy but we didn’t care we were here for the food and were not going anywhere. As it happens we didn’t have to wait too long.
BREAKFAST MENU AT THE OLD PARLOUR AT SPRING LANE
The menu reads very well, in addition to the Classic Full English, they were offering up plates of Chorizo Sausage Hash (Chorizo Sausage, Potatoes, Spinach, Lincolnshire Poacher, Fried Egg, and Chilli Oil), a Rosti (Rosti Potato, Poached egg, Smoked Salmon, Avocado, and Dill Creme Fraiche), and the more familiar Eggs Benedict (Farm Shop Pulled Ham Hock or Smoked Salmon, English Muffin, Poached Egg, and Hollandaise) .
I saw some of those going out to nearby tables and they did look really good. If I hadn’t set my sight on a Full English I would have been having one of those. I do love any kind of breakfast plate topped with a runny yolked egg!
FULL ENGLISH
I had the Full English for £13.95 which was a plate filled with 2 sausages, 2 bacon, fried egg, black pudding, breakfast potatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, toast and butter.
It was all piled on the plate, somewhat haphazardly for my liking, I have a need (probably an unreasonable one) to be able to see and have access to everything I am about to eat 🤣🧐.
It’s ok though I am a grown up (no comments lol) and I can rearrange everything as I need.
BREAFAST PLATE SORTED!
Highlights for me was the excellently flavoured smoked bacon and the meaty pork sausages both of which come from the farm shop. I have bought both before to cook at home and was delighted to confirm that they are using all their own produce in the cafe
The black pudding was tasty but a bit small (I wanted and needed more 😎), I fuelled my desire later purchasing more from the farm shop and rest assured I will have been eating it the next morning.
I love the pop of a vine roasted tomato even though one pop squirted juice down my jumper, seriously you can’t take me anywhere 🤓
Perhaps the great British breakfast purists will not like the addition of breakfast potatoes on the plate but I don’t care what they think I like them 😍. I garnished a love for fried potato on my plate living in the states where it was a staple of the breakfast diner, and also more distant child hood memories of slices of left over potatoes from the night before being fried up for the next days breakfast
Were there any downsides? Not really I will just be being picky! A personal peeve are the Beans in a ramekin? But as always I just poured them out onto the plate, so situation sorted, and I am not the one with extra washing up!
The Fried egg was decent, happy to find a runny and golden yolk, perhaps the egg white needed a touch more cooking, but we all like different things
The Toast portion was plentiful with 2 slices, cut into four, and a side of soft butter for spreading. There was not enough room on the plate to fit them all, but no problem, I used the saucer from my mug of tea.
LITTLE FARMERS BREAKFAST
Mother had the Smaller Little Farmers breakfast for £9.95 which was just 1 sausage, 1 slice of bacon, fried egg, beans, breakfast potatoes and toast.
Somehow she supplemented her plates with half of my black pudding, some tomatoes and a bit of toast. But hey why not share, I was struggling to eat it all anyway 🤣
The Verdict from both of us was that it is a very decent breakfast plate and was pretty filling, ok well yes to be honest I was stuffed and it did keep me going all day.
I would have it again, although maybe I would come in the week and not on a weekend hoping to find they place slightly quieter. Having said that I wish them well and hope that they are always busy!
LUNCH MENU AT THE OLD PARLOUR AT SPRING LANE FARM SHOP
SUNDAY LUNCH MENU
ONTO THE FARM SHOP
Afterwards we paid a visit to the Farm Shop where I bought black pudding, bacon, sausage and eggs!
I often frequent this shop and the addition of the cafe is going to be a danger to my wallet and belly! I don’t mind though quality stuff is worth paying for 😇😎
SAUSAGE SELECTION
Talking to one of the ladies behind the butchers counter it was confirmed that the cafe serves the pork and the lincolnshire sausages, so I bought some more as one does! The sausages are especially good!
