The Momo Spot at Clifton Market located just off the Clifton Centre Tram Stop is a small food van specialising in Nepalese Dumplings (Momo’s). They are set up at the market place on Tuesdays, Friday and Saturdays
I had found them as I spotted the van as I passed by on the Tram one market day, saw the word Momo, put two and two together and as a devotee of the dumplings I vowed to return to check them out
THE MOMO SPOT MENU
The Momo Spot has a very simple menu, alongside the Momo’s they also offer up dishes of Fried Rice, and of Chow Mein both at very reasonable prices, nothing was more than £6
On my first trip I picked up a tray of 8 chicken and vegetable Momo dumplings for £5 and a Portion of Chicken Fried Rice for £6, on the second visit we had more dumplings and a carton of the Chicken Chow Mein coming in a a tenner for the two dishes
DUMPLING #MOMO
The Momo’s with a filling of Chicken and Vegetable come with a ‘tomato sesame’ sauce or a ‘soy ginger’ sauce. I was also offered a pot of chilli sauce too with a warning that ‘it was spicy!’
The dumplings were fabulous, casing was lovely and soft, perfectly steamed and the filling of chicken mince and vegetables mixed with a little garlic and ginger was very tasty indeed!
A sprinkling of chopped scallions and a shake of sesame seeds over the tray was just a simple topping, a dash of soy or chili sauce was also an option.
One thing that pleased me immensely was the portion size where we got 8 dumplings for our £5, a great price and also an even number which was perfect for sharing
CHICKEN FRIED RICE
The fried rice was easily enough for two, full of decent sized chunks of chicken and cooked to whatever spice level you can handle. I opted for a little bit spicy which turned out to be fairly spicy (as I suspected it would be)
I loved seeing the lady cook my stir fried rice to order and you could really tell it was freshly made! No clumpy bits of soggy rice being served up from this place
Obviously it doesn’t come on a fancy plate! that was just my efforts to serve up one portion back at home to make it look all pretty 😇😜
If nothing else it certainly highlights just how plump and fabulous those Momo dumplings were!
CHICKEN CHOW MEIN
We did return for a second visit to check out the noodles and get some more Momo’s. This was another very generously filled tray, easily enough for two people!
I made the mistake of requesting mine with chilli sauce in the stir fry and it was perhaps a tad spicy! I pushed through though and scoffed my half of the tray as one should.
It was great to get the noodles fried fresh to order, there was again plenty of chicken, some nice crunchy carrot, onion, and beansprouts as well as some chopped up scallion leaf
An absolute steal at just £5!
Well worth checking out The Momo Spot can be found at Clifton Market Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a warning that it may vary in the school holidays
Take the tram towards or from the Clifton South Tram Stop and get off at Clifton centre and the Van is usually set up on the side of the road with all the shops
