A lot of Top level noodle action can be found at Plan A Cafe in Nottingham up on Friar Lane.
Located in the spot formerly occupied by my much beloved Tuckers cafe whom I was most sad to see close. They used to do also do a breakfast of which I have partaken of a while back (read more here) but I am not sure if they still do.
Now it is all about comforting Hong Kong style food and I am quite happy about that
This Hong Kong style cafe has a menu that reads well, offering up bowls of noodles, rice dishes, and some classic Chinese dishes such as Sweet and sour Chicken.
I do love a bilingual chalkboard as I find that your are more likely to be getting the real authentic stuff and more often than not find the places full of more appreciative diners who come here to find some comforts of home
Today was all about the rice noodles which I ordered with pork belly in a hot and sour broth. The soup was excellent just the right level of heat and sourness to make your mouth pucker with pleasure
It was a very generous bowl of soup and it took me quite a while to work my way through to the bottom, it actually took a while to get to the noodles, much slurping was required to find all the good stuff
The copious strands of noodles were filling the bowl and did their best to avoid my pitiful chopstick action as I attempted to grab them long enough to slurp up into my mouth.
It is moments like this that I wish I had brought my travel fork and spoon with me so I could eat it spaghetti bolognaise style with more ease. I have no shame and will do was is needed to get the scoffage down me
All too often the stains on my t-shirt attest to the fact that the noodles won the battle
The broth was enhanced by the addition of minced pork and seasoned mustard. Both excellent bedfellows in the bowl. I confess that at first I did not realise that it was pork mince as it was so finely ground, it was only after when I read the menu properly that I knew
The mustard did add quite a bit of heat to the broth, not so much spicy but more warming and like a good dose of pepper I did find it made my nose run after a while. It was all part of the experience
Other soup options were Tomato or Sichuan spicy but I think I made the best choice although perhaps I might have chosen some additional toppings like some of the Beef Meat Balls
Whatever I have to say that this was an Absolute bargain at £8 for the soup noodles and £2.50 for the generous portion of thinly sliced pork belly
One very happy noodle fiend totally satisfied here!
