The Breakfast Gods were kind to me today as we visited Jules Cafe & Deli in Ruddington for Brunch. Located on the main street through Ruddington they are perfectly placed in the heart of the action.
I have had my eyes (or was it my stomach) on this place for a while ever since they had taken over the spot formally occupied by various other cafes including the Black Cat Cafe, Morton’s, and Matthew’s all of whom I have frequented in my time.
ALL DAY BREAKFAST MENU

I had hobbled my way along the few hundred yards from the Physio to Jules Cafe & Deli and I wasn’t about to settle for a cup of tea and a sticky bun.
I needed Breakfast for Brunch to ease the pangs of hunger from my stomach and something tasty to help me forget the pain from my back.
Without an ounce of shame I ordered the biggest thing that they had on the Menu which was the ULTIMATE BREAKFAST for £11.50 I wanted everything that they could throw at me.
The other options were BIG and TRADITIONAL in descending order of size. Some places just list them as Small, Medium and Large and I feel that I am missing out or eating lightly if I am getting the smaller option, so I like that they call it TRADITIONAL here.
ULTIMATE BREAKFAST

The menu lists the ULTIMATE breakfast as “Two Eggs, Two Sausage, Two Bacon Rashers, Black Pudding, Two Hash Browns, Mushrooms, Fried Slice, Baked Beans, Tomato, Two Toast plus regular tea”
Perhaps I overdid it, I admit that now, but it was done with the best of intentions. Initially I contemplated the BIG breakfast as I thought that the only difference was the additional tea and black pudding.
I hadn’t read the menu properly and ended up with more hash brown and fried bread too as well as all that toast!
Well that’s my story and I am sticking to it, do you believe that considering my opening gambit that I was looking to go huge?
Thanks if you cut me some slack, my trouser belt wasn’t😜
BREAKFAST CLOSE UP

Once I decanted my beans from the ramekin and found my black pudding hidden under the tomato I was in full scoffage mode and started to complete my breakfast assignment with a modicum of fuss.
With so much carb on the plate I was alternating between toast, fried slice, and hash brown as the foils to mop up the beans and egg yolk.
Never has a man had to think so hard to keep his plate in balance, one could say that it was hungry work 🧐😎
MY BREAKFAST PLATE

The key question could be did I eat it all and was I full and replete, or just over-faced and stuffed?
Well I only left one half of the toast, and perhaps a stray baked bean but our lovely server said don’t worry most people can’t manage all the toast.
Perhaps another egg and I’d have finished the last bit 😎
For me the highlights were the super meaty and well cooked crispy sausages and thick bacon with properly rendered fat.
They were definitely quality items nothing cheap on this plate!
The two crunchy fat laden slices of fried bread were a very guilty pleasure, breakfast items which are always a joy to my arteries and enjoyed with restraint🥳
Double hash brown, well cooked eggs, juicy mushrooms, and a ladle of beans? Thank you very much
Lets be honest there was really nothing to complain about here, if I was being picky then perhaps the tomato could have been cooked a bit more but I was was more that happy that it wasn’t from a tin so I really was clutching at straws to find anything to pass doubts on
So that was my breakfast story but there was more food to be eaten here today

SOME MAINS ON THE MENU

My dining companion had her eyes fixed on the lunch section of the menu zooming in on the Cottage Pie for just £7 which did sound like an absolute bargain. If I hadn’t had my heart set on breakfast I could have been pulled in that direction too!
Having thoroughly enjoyed the bangers that came with my breakfast I reckon that the Sausage and Mash for just £6! would have been a winner too – ‘Creamy Home Made Mash served with a Lincolnshire Sausage and Onion Gravy‘ yes please 😍
COTTAGE PIE

The menu described the meal as Homemade Cottage Pie served with a portion of vegetables, a ladle of frozen peas as it happened. That’s fine though you don’t really need much with a pie like this.
All the major action takes place inside the bowl where the creamy mash combines with the mince meat and gravy to provide a great big pie hug!
The meal came with a big jug of gravy but you didn’t really need it as there was plenty in the pot.
This meal was banging value and if the other mains on the menu are as good as this we will certainly be back for more.

As Cafes go I heartedly recommend if you are looking for some breakfast action!
If you don’t fancy a humongous breakfast plate like the one I scoffed down don’t worry they have many far more sensible options that you could order 🤪🤪
For future reference and visits I have my sights set on the SAUSAGE AND EGG MUFFIN for £3.95 and/or the DOUBLE SAUSAGE & CHEESE MUFFIN for £4.50 (no thoughts of McDonalds honestly🧐) or the BIG BREKKIE BAP filled with ‘Bacon, Sausage, Hash Brown, Mushrooms and an Egg’ for just £5.75
Lighter bites could include Toast and Jam for £2.60 or a freshly baked Pain Au Chocolat for £2 but I probably would have to have already eaten if I was being that restrained 🤣
I really enjoyed our visit to Jules Cafe & Deli and I know that we will be back quite possibly next time I have Physio (any excuse) 😎 I did see that they do a Sunday Lunch as well which is very tempting!
Jules Cafe & Deli are located at 24D High St, Ruddington NG11 6EA, there is plenty of parking nearby in the village and the number 10 bus runs here from the City Centre too.
