Secret Burger Club – The Patty Melt

Tonight we took a trip out of town over to Radcliffe on Trent to hunt down and devour a Patty Melt, the latest special from Secret Burger Club.

They park up their van outside the Royal Oak pub every Thursday night between 5 and 8.30pm serving all the usual classics ‘The Duke, The West Coast, and The Bacon Cheese’ all of which I am in love with

Secret Burger usually sling these alongside one of their Specials and every-so-often they have a new creation on the menu board.

TODAYS SPECIAL BOARD

Tonight they were introducing the PATTY MELT burger for £8.50 which they list on the menu board as a combination of “Beef Patty, American Cheese, Caramelised Onion, Secret Sauce, Chives

When asked to describe the Burger they say the following on their Facebook Page

What is a patty melt you say!?”

Think grilled-cheese combined with a cheeseburger…”

“We take a usual Westcoast style cheeseburger turn it inside out, add American cheese, caramelised onions and toast on the grill to melty perfection!”

PATTY MELT BURGER

I do love a Patty Melt sandwich so when I heard that they were doing a burger in that style I was really quite excited. My favourite in this genre are the ones from the Waffle House in the States (read more about that here)

Would they be able to replicate the flavours and the joy of the sandwich? I really hoped that they would do it justice, and I just kinda knew that the would smash it! They always do 😎

The burger buns are turned inside out and toasted on the flat top which did work really well and made it more like a Patty Melt sandwich than just a burger with Patty Melt filling

Inside the sweet caramelised onion laying alongside a soft melty cheese blanket and a good smear of secret sauce blend so harmoniously together bringing joy to your taste buds.

As with all the Secret Burger combos the burger patty smashed down on the hot plate with a good char is the star of the show. I just love the quality of the meat they use and how they season it simply

SLICE OF THE ACTION

A close up on one slice of the burger reveals the perfect layering of onion, cheese, meat, and toasted bun. Every single bite contains a bit of everything so you get the flavour combination with every mouthful

It’s a cracking little bite of food, not as big as some of their specials but just as tasty and moreish. I could have eaten a couple more it was that good. There was an option to have added another patty but I sometimes feel that more meat just knocks the sandwich out of balance and its better to just eat another one!

As always with Secret Burger Club combinations everything in between the bun has a place and does the job it was picked for. Nothing gets in the way of anything else and they are all friends in this burger party

At the moment the Royal Oak pub is one of two regular spots to find Secret Burger Club and they let you eat your burgers inside the pub where it’s nice and warm.

Obviously alongside a cheeky pint or two 🤪 which is a bonus and you can park for free in the car park next to the pub if you give your details in at the bar.

God I love their burgers so much 🥳❤️ I’ll be back. The boys are slinging their burgers outside the pub every Thursday between 5-8.30pm check their Instagram to see where they will be

I usually keep my eye on their Instagram profile to see what they have each week and whenever they release a new combination I will do my best to drive over to check it out, just like today
