The Generous Briton in Costock was our port of call for lunch this Sunday. We used to come here for food years ago and always enjoyed the pub so when we recently heard they were doing meals again we thought we should check them out @thegenerousbriton_

SUNDAY LUNCH MENU

The menu was pretty simple if you just wanted one plateful offering a KIDS, a REGULAR, or a LARGE SUNDAY ROAST

Meat choices being BEEF, PORK or LAMB with optional extras of CAULIFLOWER CHEESE and PIG IN BLANKETS.

Personally I always rate a Sunday Lunch higher that includes Cauliflower Cheese as part of the package and I think pig In blankets are just for Xmas but apparently I am in the minority on the latter opinion

We ordered one REGULAR Roast Beef with a side of cauliflower cheese and one LARGE with a choice of meats Beef, Lamb, and Pork

LARGE SUNDAY LUNCH

I was having the LARGEST one and the main difference seemingly was being loads more vegetables.

I got two Yorkshires, two Roasties, twice as many carrots and parsnips and a vast pile of mash potato on my LARGE dinner.

I thought I had asked for a slice of all three meats but to be honest I really couldn’t tell the difference between each slice. They were cut quite thinly

I would have liked more meat but with all the vegetables I struggled to eat it all as it was (I did eat it all 😜) so I suppose it was enough 👍

REGULAR SUNDAY LUNCH

The REGULAR Sunday Lunch was probably enough food especially if you had added a side of Cauliflower Cheese as we did. It might have seemed a bit small without it

Highlights were the very tasty well cooked root vegetables and the highly seasoned mash which I don’t usually like on my Sunday lunch but I enjoyed today. Happily there was plenty of gravy as well

It was a substantial feed for the money and we were both stuffed for the rest of the day. I fell asleep for a few hours on the sofa thus avoiding catch up TV 😇

Overall it was good honest well cooked grub at a reasonable price, nothing too fancy and very comfortable place to have lunch

The Generous Briton is located at 14 Main Street, Costock, LE12 6XD. The main drag running between East Leake and Wysall.

It was a friendly spot seemingly laid out mostly for dining with most casual drinkers huddled around the bar

We did book a table and a fair few did seem to be reserved but we saw plenty of people come in on the off chance of getting seated and they all got tables so I reckon you could take your chances and get lucky

It was a nice bonus to find out that it was 20% off in January as well 🥳
