Breakfast at Plan A Cafe

Plan A Cafe on Friar Lane recently opened up serving a mix of classic English breakfast fry ups and Chinese food

They are located in the spot formerly occupied by my much beloved Tuckers cafe whom I was most sad to see close. Lets reminisce for a brief moment with the last blog I wrote about them here

Life moves on though and there is already an upside because Plan A are open at the weekends and stay open later in the day when they are serving their Chinese meals

I popped in on the off chance just after lunch having read that breakfast was served until 11 and was happy to still be able to order a fry up (note: turns out they recently changed the time to 1.30 as on the chalkboard)

Things are simple here you an get a REGULAR Breakfast for £6.50 or a LARGE BREAKFAST for £8.50.

Both come with tea and toast and the only difference is that with the Large breakfast you get two of everything so I ordered one of those; “2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 hash browns, mushrooms, beans, and tomatoes “

OK so they do have a Veggie option for £5 but there are no meat substitutes on it so it is basically everything but the meat being ‘2 eggs, 1 hash brown, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms’

LARGE BREAKFAST

This was a bit of a gentle belly buster. I like the presentation with it all laid out on a tray, beans and tomatoes in their own little bowls. I don’t usually like ramekins but these ones were welcomed as they were not on the actual plate.

I messed it all up by pouring my beans and tomato onto the plate to make a nice sloppy mix

The Sausage was your classic catering level but it was cooked properly so I was happy. Nicely coloured and quite meaty.

The eggs were fried well and had nice yellow golden yolks I was very happy that they were served sunny side up as I am not that keen when they get turned over.

The bacon had been seared down on the hot plate and had a plenty of char marks. It was nice and thick, a little salty and almost like a thin gammon steak. I checked and there was no pineapple to be seen.

Mushrooms were plentiful and still a little juicy, I was pleased to find that they had soaked up a little of the flavour from the hot plate.

The Hash browns were crisp outside and soft inside seemingly a bit low rent but good fillers nonetheless and they were doing that job well!

Beans and Tomatoes added the juice to the plate and got mopped up with some rather decent buttered toast. I kind of wished I had some jam so that I could have saved a bit of toast for a breakfast pudding but not today

Overall this place was Good value for the money and even though the presentation was a bit too good for a greasy spoon it was totally forgivable 🤣🤣

While I was initially quite sad that Tuckers had gone I was but happy enough with the new guys especially since I can pop in for some basic Chinese too and I miss places that do you a simple plate of sweet and sour chicken with fried rice on a lunch time 🤪🥰

That is going to be one whole other blog post though so keep your eyes open for that 🤪🥰
