Notts Noodles for some great Dumplings and Bowls of Noodles

Notts Noodles on Market street serve the best bowls of Chinese Noodles in Nottingham.

Even though the name changed back in 2021 I think most people still think of this place as Langzhou Beef Noodles. I mean even the plates still have the label Langzhou Noodles across the top of the rim

I love this place as much as I love slurping threads of freshly made noodles out of a bowl of hot steaming broth

DUMPLINGS
A plate of freshly made dumplings, showcasing a variety of shapes and styles, including some with pleated edges and others more rounded, all on a white plate with the text 'Lanzhou Noodles'.

To start us off (or rather to go alongside our noodles) we ordered a plate of dumplings. As we entered I was watching the lady by the counter side rolling up dough and filling the dumplings. It was just too tempting not to order after seeing them being prepared so freshly.

The dumplings here is one dish I have not really ordered that much as you get such a large portion especially just for one person. Today I was not dining alone so figured a sharing plateful would not be too many.

Lets be honest you all know I could scoff a whole plate all by myself but I was trying to get inside the mind of a less gluttonous natured diner.

The ones here at Notts Noodles ae boiled as opposed to being steamed or fried so they have a much softer more silken texture to the bite.

These were excellent, very smooth and easy to eat, after I ordered I read that you can add these as a side to your noodles which is a very dangerous bit of knowledge to have learnt!

BEEF BRISKET NOODLES
A bowl of Lanzhou noodles with beef, cilantro, and green onions in broth.

If this is your first time at Notts Noodles then you really have to order the Beef Noodles, either the Original which comes with slices of beef, or the Beef Brisket which is a bowl filled with soft chunks of meat that melts in your mouth

Personally I do favour the brisket as I love the texture and the fattiness that it brings to the broth.

I was very pleased to find that the broth was still as excellent as it has always been in the past. I know I say it every time but it really is just as if some one has poured the most amazing beef casserole into a bowl just to get things started.

BIG PLATE CHICKEN NOODLES
A bowl of Lanzhou noodles with meat, vegetables, and herbs in a rich, spicy broth.

Once you have had the pleasure of partaking in a bowl of the Beef Noodles then hard as it might be to give up a chance for more of them you really do need to venture a little further into the menu to try the Big Plate Chicken Noodles which is my next favourite dish served here at Notts Noodles

The broth is a little more spicy and a little less vast, the orange tinge comes from the addition of a bit of chilli oil which does add a bit of heat to the event.

The chicken, often on the bone, is a little ragged to the fussier patron but generous in portion and also exceptionally delicious within the broth. I do also love the addition of roughly cut chunks of potato which thickens the soup as it falls apart in the bowl

The best part of this particular plate are the flat, wide, hand pulled noodles, they are lovely and chewy especially after they have been left to steep in the broth for a while. They are very filling and can get stuck together, you may need to grab a fork to help prise them apart as I find my chopstick skills don’t give me enough purchase sometimes

HOT DRY NOODLES
A bowl of cold noodles topped with finely sliced cucumber, greens, sesame seeds, and spicy pickles, served in a blue-edged bowl labeled with 'Langzhou Noodles'.

As I finish this post I look back to a previous undocumented trip this year when I swerved my usual choices by ordering a bowl of the Hot Dry Noodles with sesame paste thinking it was akin to another one of my beloved breakfast noodle dishes Regamian from Wuhan

It was a great effort, loads of noodles topped with finely sliced cucumber and spring onion, a scattering of pickled veg and a dollop of sesame paste sauce

The noodles were tight to the bite, a little chewy, perfect for the occasion. Once mixed with the nutty sesame paste they were slurped up with much joy and gusto

The bits of greenery added both crunch and a little bit of freshness apart from the pickled bits that gave a more chewy tangy bite

It’s was very simple uncomplicated dish and a very comforting bowl of food to eat. It wasn’t quite as good as Reg a Mian that I ate in my memories but jolly good all the same

THE NOTTS NOODLES MENU
A menu featuring various types of homemade beef noodles, including cold noodles, spicy chicken noodles, and wonton noodles, with prices displayed.

The menu has expanded over the years with a greater selection but I do admit that I tend to gravitate back to the same old ever reliable choices that I do know and love.

Prices have steadily crept up but I think it is still excellent value at just under £10 for most of the noodle dishes. It is untouchable in it’s level of authenticity and I have this place in such high regard I would put it top of the list locally for bowls of Chinese Noodles

Located at  17 Market Street in Nottingham, they are just a short walk up from the Old Market Square and down from the Royal Centre Tram stop.
