Breakfast at the Avenues Cafe

This weekend we took a trip back down Breakfast memory lane to revisit one of our favoured local spots the Avenues Cafe down at Sneinton Market.

Over the years we have been here a lot and always enjoyed the down and dirty nature of their fry-ups. It is a typical greasy spoon establishment, warm and friendly, cheap and cheerful, and you get a good feed for your money

ALL DAY BREAKFAST MENU

Today it was £7 for the Large Breakfast of 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 hash browns, beans or tomatoes, mushrooms and a fried slice bread, for the money you also get a mug of tea and a plate of toast.

I see that these days they cater for the halal and for the vegan on the breakfast menu. What I want to know is can I get a burger and the bubble & squeak with my traditional fry-up?

I will have to ask next time!

LARGE BREAKFAST

The first picture was the recent visit this weekend, the next was from the last post on The Nottingham Food Blog back in 2022 when it was £6.50. So only gone up 50p in three years which it not bad these days

The verdict is that it is a very filling and substantial plate of food. Is it top quality in terms of ingredients? Well no but it is cheap

Highlights were the well crisped up bacon and the buttered toast, the fried slice and the eggs were ok with an almost runny yolk.

Beans and Mushrooms are standard plate fillers and did their jobs well.

The sausages were slightly on the dubious side of the catering sausage scale. A bit longer in the fryer to crisp up the skin might have helped. Hey I still ate them 🤣

I like the Avenues Cafe, it is cheap and cheerful, has a nice warm feeling when you enter and it’s always popular. Prices certainly help

Located at 13 Gedling Street in Nottingham, right alongside Sneinton Market Avenues and open 7 days a week until 3pm serving breakfast all day!
