Breakfast at Stone Roasting House and Artisan Cafe in Compton Acres

Stone Roasting House and Artisan Cafe can be found on the Compton Acres Shopping Centre in West Bridgford. It is located in the space formerly occupied by Lowes @ No.8 between the Tesco Express and the Ala Turka restaurant.

It opened back in July with talk of it being a go to place if you love Coffee as they roast their own beans and offer single origin, which if you like coffee is apparently quite important 🙂 (I like tea)

I meant to pop in a while back but each time I had driven past it had seemed really busy with people sitting outside enjoying themselves it seemed.

Today though it was a bit gloomier and I took my chance to drive over and check them out. It was a bit quieter so I parked up and grabbed a table inside to partake in a spot of lunch.

Lunch, turned into Brunch, which invariably ends up being Breakfast if they stick one on the menu. They had so that was what I ended up ordering 🙂

THE HEARTY STONE BREAKFAST

The Hearty Stone Breakfast was described on the menu as being made up of “Two thick cut rindless back bacon, two Lincolnshire lightly seasoned sausages, two free range eggs, beans and vine tomatoes with white or granary bloomer” for £8.50

As breakfast goes this was a bit of a mixed affair, the bacon was excellent, the eggs seemed to have been cooked in one of those poaching machines or rings and while they looked a bit different they were really quite good, soft white and runny yolk, possibly one could suggest almost healthy

The sausage was a bit pale but was as promised lightly seasoned, there was not a lot of flavour for a Lincolnshire sausage, but you know what I think that is the correct level for a breakfast sausage. No one needs a massive flavour overload first thing at breakfast (even if breakfast is at lunchtime 🙂 )

There was no mention of the mushrooms on the menu so I was a bit surprised to see them making an appearance. I was expecting the vine tomatoes to still be on the vine or those little ones that you often get. At least it was a real tomato and it had been cooked properly.

BREAKFAST ACTION

I took this picture just because it was so nice to see someone cook the bacon properly so that all the fat was rendered and left nice and crispy. It is much easier to do that with decent thick cut bacon.

In contrast those sausages could have benefitted from a bit more time in the pan. I do like a bit of colour on mine. To be fair they were nice and plump and cooked all the way through and there was a little sear on one side of them.

All in all I enjoyed my breakfast for lunch, sure it wasn’t perfection on a plate, but when it comes to a fry up it rarely is. If I think about it I don’t think anything on this plate was fried it was almost a little bit on the healthy side, perhaps I was missing the extra fat 🙂

Portion wise it was certainly a large plateful and quite filling, perhaps more that I really needed for lunch. Not complaining about that but I did feel a little sleepy when I got home

It wasn’t all about the breakfast here at Stone Roasting House and Artisan Cafe, it was probably supposed to be all about the coffee but being a tea drinker I guess I ruined that part of the story for them.

In addition to the breakfasts on the menu there were also some other quite tempting options for lunch. I saw in the light bites an offering of Croque Monsieur and Welsh Rarebit, alongside an Eggs Benedict. Three of my favourite brunch snacks, it was almost as if they wrote that section just for me 🙂

They also were offering a homemade Chilli and a homemade Bhuna curry, sounds good for the cooler weeks ahead if you want warming up.

It seemed a nice bright and airy space, and the chap cooking up my breakfast seemed to be quite warm and cheerful and made me feel welcome enough to want to come back for a proper lunch.

Stone Roasting House and Artisan Cafe is located at 8 Compton Acres Shopping Centre in West Bridgford (or Compton acres really), Nottingham NG2 7RS

According to the menu, you can check them out on their Facebook page and Instagram profile but looking at both they are not that active at the moment, Facebook seems the best bet for info and contact details

  1. Don’t want to be contentious, or maybe I do, but if they don’t want the full Lincolnshire flavour why not go for one of the lesser varieties of sausage, like Cumberland or Breakfast? And I think they definitely mis-led you with the “vine” tomatoes. Apart from that – looks good. 🙂

Yes I think I was more generous in my comments about the ‘vine’ tomatoes it really was just one tomato sliced a bit, got better down the Allotment. Sausage wise yep just do a basic pork sausage and that’s all you need. It filled me up and mostly that’s all I wanted despite trying to write a blog about eating a breakfast for lunch legitimately 🤣🤣

      1. You are just too nice.

I think it might be better if you addressed the concept of “one perfect meal” – eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and black pudding and refer to it as breakfast if eaten in the morning, lunch if taken around noon and tea/dinner/supper when eaten in the evening. The perfect meal doesn’t vary, just the time you eat it. 🙂

And stop writing about coffee places, you are just encouraging them.

I think it’s pretty clear if I like the meal when ever I eat it. Recently yeh had a lot of breakfasts as its probably my default go to option. Nothing terrible makes it onto my blog so rest assured anything that does is a safe bet
