Tuckers Cafe & Takeaway on Friar Lane is one of the last proper old school greasy spoon cafes in the city centre, and an absolute classic in the genre. It is the sort of place that needs to be cherished and we do so in our droves.
The last time I wrote about Tuckers was way back in 2017, on route to the beer festival at the Castle, back then they used to name their breakfasts after local legends like “Friar’s Breakfast”, “Big Johns”, and the “Robin Hood Special”
I recall that I had the Robin Hood Special for £6.49 the biggest breakfast that they had on offer that day (read more about that here)
BREAKFAST MENU

These day’s the menu is less glam, offering Breakfast by number 1,2,3,4 with the higher number being the bigger breakfast.
I ordered “Breakfast 3” – ‘2 bacon, 2 sausage, 1 egg, 1 hash brown, mushrooms, beans & tomatoes’ and toast for the rather decent price of £6.50.
It was almost the same as the Robin Hood Special of yesteryear only with one less egg and one less hash brown that had cost me £6.49 back in 2017.
I was happy enough with that, it felt cheap today and good value
BREAKFAST 3

I like the way it was plated with everything circled around the egg although some people get triggered by the beans and tomato touching the egg I am not fussed as it all goes down the same cakehole in the end 😂
The bacon was nice and crisp, fat all rendered properly. The sausage while catering level at best was surprising meaty.
The toast was well buttered and needed for mopping up all those beans and tomatoes. The hash brown was decent enough and the mushrooms were plentiful if a little thinly cut for my liking
Served up with a proper big mug of tea to wash it all down with! I was one happy camper😍

Tuckers is located at 42 Friar Lane in Nottingham and is just about 5 minutes walk up the hill towards Maid Marian Way from the Old Market Square
It is not fancy but it is really good, very friendly, busy and bustling. A breakfast spot that you need to try if you are in town, A word of caution, they close at 1pm and they are not open at the weekend
