Stax Burgers on Goosegate in Hockley are the newest addition to the burger scene in Nottingham. They launched in July taking over the spot formerly occupied by Vi-Va Indian street which has moved just up the road.
I was pretty hopeful when I came in to check them out as I had seen some good looking burgers on instagram and people seemed to be liking what they we eating
BACONCHEESE BURGER AND FRIES

I had picked very simply going for what I hoped was a classic burger choosing the BACON CHEESE listed on the menu as – “Smashed beef patty, American cheese, smoked bacon, crispy tater, buttermilk ranch” it comes with a side of fries and a price tag of £14.95
To be honest it sounds expensive and since you can buy house fries off the menu for £3.95 I would probably just put the price of the burger on the menu and let people buy the fries they want. £11 sounds better in the mind and I’d probably end up buying fancier fries as the basic ones are just that, basic
BURGER CLOSE UP

It’s a solid effort, quite a meaty bite, good crispy bacon and a bit of crunch from the tater tot.
Burger patty was a bit thicker than I expected for a smash burger, but happily it was juicy and nicely charred
I really liked the flavour of the buttermilk ranch, could have enjoyed a pot of that to dip my fries in. As it was I made do with the drippings from the burger and a couple of sachets of Mayonnaise
The burger itself was a bit smaller that I had hoped for and the portion of chips a bit frugal having said that it was a decent effort
Overall Stax Burger do serve a decent burger and they are located in quite a good spot right in the heart of Hockley. I like that it’s a small space, more inviting and welcoming than some places. Being another local independent it is always well worth supporting and I do hope that they do well
Located at 6 Goose Gate and open every day except Monday. Check them out on insta @stax.burger

You don’t expect to see “frugal” and “smaller” in a review of a £14.95 burger, so I may pass on this, particularly now we have moved 60 miles away. All I can say about chips is that they aren’t improved by cheese, blue cheese, being “dirty” or being called fries. Despite my gripes about the food, it is nice to read another of your crisp and well written reviews – I have lost touch with WP recently. Look after yourself and give my regards to your mother.
Hi Simon, good to hear from you and all the best to you all as well. Yes food is getting more expensive these days, perhaps a sign of the times. Thanks for comments, WP is still alive and kicking
