Copper – Afternoon Tea ‘Sandwiches and Scones’

Copper in West Bridgford

Copper is a Cafe, Bar, and a Deli on Central Avenue  in West Bridgford. We were looking for a light lunch and were perusing the “Light Bites” section of their menu through the window. Initially I was drawn in by the thought of their “Braised pork belly & Black pudding in a soft roll with apple sauce” for £6.00, or their “Warm pitta stuffed with crayfish tails, pok choi, cucumber, spring onions & sweet chilli sauce” also for £6.00. Well that was got me in through the door anyway.

Welsh Rarebit and a Scone

Once inside and flicking through the menu I was then tempted into getting the Menu special which was a “Sandwich and a Scone” for £6.50. Not only was there going to be some kind of cake involved and some jam and cream, but you also got a pot of tea. So apart from the general yumminess of the whole thought it was a bargain as well, the sort of bargain that would be rude to turn down. I had almost ordered a “Welsh rarebit bagel with sage and onion”, but then I had seen that one of the sandwich options within the special deal was  “Welsh rarebit on a toasted muffin” and since I was going to get that with a scone, clotted cream, homemade jam and tea for just 50p more, well as I said I was sold.

The Welsh rarebit was really good, flavourful and with some herby additions the muffin was light and crispy. The scones were freshly baked and most excellent, topped off with some homemade jam and clotted cream, well I was very happy with my lot.

I still might pop back for one of those pork belly and black pudding sandwiches, or a club sandwich (I saw several pass by my table)
