Today we were exploring the world of breakfast boxes seeking out one of the cheaper and more locally available ones from Fresh-2-You Bakery in Clifton
I do like my fry-ups presented all nicely for my delectation on a plate in the cafe but I have recently been embroiled into the world of the takeaway breakfast that comes in a box
The laminated menu card on the counter did not give much away as it just displayed the price as £4.90 which sounded really cheap. I asked what was in the box and just heard the words sausage, bacon and egg which was all I needed to assure me of a decent feast as I nodded my approval and agreed to pay 50p for the addition of a Hash Brown bringing my total up to a mere £5.40 (bargain?)
I did take this one home to plate up, spoiler above on how it looked, but before we get to the details lets have a look at the origin and journey of this particular Breakfast Adventure
BREAKFAST BOX

The ‘breakfast box’ did not look pretty or ‘Instagram worthy’ and that was fine with me. It is after all supposed to be a container of food designed for transportation not for the catwalk
Some breakfast box containers are better designed for the purpose and some are filled up more carefully and thoughtfully than others.
This one from Fresh-2-You Bakery was in the middle. The stars of the breakfast world had been kept to one side with the bacon, sausage, and hash brown in one half of the box and the wetter items of tomato and mushrooms kept separate on the other side. The fried egg placed carefully on top of the meats.
BREAKFAST BOX PLATED UP AT HOME

How did it eat though? Was it any good? I hear someone ask. I was happy to find two sausages and two slices of bacon in the box alongside a very well cooked fried egg with perfectly runny yolk still intact which was a highlight
The sausages seemed to be from the cheaper end of the breakfast market, thinking somewhere between Catering level and Richmonds at best. They were fairly solid to the bite but I would have liked them a bit browner and crispier if I had the option
The bacon was fairly decent with a good crisp fry to each slice and quite a nice meaty bite and taste. I have had bacon cobs from this bakery before so I had every confidence it would be good
I did my best to lay the contents out on the plate so that we could get a good look at the breakfast following the rules of keeping the juice away from the egg by creating a barrier with the bacon and mushrooms.
I quite liked the mushrooms, sliced thinly they had been fried very well, still juicy and still retaining their flavour. I was happy to see a lot of them in the box
I had expected beans as well as tomato. maybe I had missed the question of my choices amongst the hustle and bustle of the bakery counter as I had ordered. The tinned tomatoes are what they are, and what I expected more or less just a runny sauce providing some juiciness to the party
The least enjoyable item was that Hash Brown I had paid more for, it was a bit soggy for my liking and looking back I should have said no when offered it, Iessons learned

One of the best parts of this breakfast box adventure was the soft white freshly baked bread roll that came with the meal. I could have happily just made up a big breakfast roll with the bacon, sausage, egg and mushrooms and I reckon that is probably what a lot of people do!
This was one of the cheaper breakfast boxes I have tried so far, and contents wise it was fairly decent. You did get a lot for your money with two slices of bacon and two sausages. Ok so perhaps the quality of the ingredients was not the highest but there was never any suggestion that it was going to be a gourmet effort
All in all a good value box for under a fiver, a well cooked breakfast and a very decent feed.
