Secret Burger Club – The Specials: The Doeback, The Secret Mac and The Flipper

The Secret Burger Club is probably one of the few places that I will visit without fail whenever they are in town at the Nottingham Street Food club and I am around. My default personal choice from their regular menu is the Duke Burger (pictured above) a burger topped with ‘Stilton, Smoked Bacon, Onion Jam, Lettuce, Tomato and Mayo’. It is truly irristible and something quite special

However from time to time the guys at Secret Burger Club dream up Specials that they tempt us with. You don’t always see the same ones and when you do, well you need to get yourselves down to the club to try them out.

I like to keep a personal record of all the stuff that I eat in Nottingham, a diary that has turned into this The Nottingham Food Blog. It seems that I have a lot of posts about the Secret Burger Club and that is because they keep on giving us new stuff to try and that means more stuff to tell you about.

This post is about just three of their Specials, The Doeback Burger, The Secret Mac, and The Flipper. Three that I have chomped may way through over the last couple of months, as well as the odd Bacon Dreamz, Duke Burger, West Coast Burger, Bacon Cheese Burger….yeh think you get the picture 🙂

Anyway lets look at these specials>

The Doeback Burger

The Doeback burger is the latest one of the Secret Burger Club combinations that I have tried. I popped over this week to get my hands on one and it was well worth the trip

The menu describes it as a “Double Beef Patty, American Cheese, Smoked Bacon, Blue Cheese Ranch, Franks Hot Sauce, Pink Pickled Onions, Potato Straws”. When I first read that on Instagram I really wasn’t sure that I was going to like it. I was really worried that the different flavours would compete too much with each other.  Happily I was wrong!

To start with having two of their excellent Beef patties in the bun was something that is always a joyous bonus as you get double the burger love with each bite. The melted American cheese oozing all over the top of each burger is great too, it is so good that each burger gets its own coat of cheesiness.

The super crunchy strips of smoked bacon that they lay across the top of the stack of burgers is pretty much something I dream about each time I am on my way for a trip to Secret Burger club, they just cook it so well.

The combination of the Hot Sauce and the Blue Cheese Ranch is the kicker that makes this a very special bite of burger. It’s kind of like the flavouring that you get on a buffalo hot wing. That is what they were aiming for and that is what they have managed to replicate. I kind of loved it and I wasn’t sure that I was going to, so that made me grin inside like the Cheshire Cat.

The burger is topped with a handful of freshly made potato straws that are crispy and do add something texturally to the bite as you chomp down in through the bun, most of the crunch though  is coming from the crunchy bacon. The pink onions that they pickle themselves add a little bit of a tartness and more crunch, but they are very delicately pickled so that they are adding gentle flavours to the bite.

All in all this is a top burger in their specials repertoire and a worthy addition to the menu. I would get this one again if they have it on

The Secret Mac

The Secret Mac is another one of their Specials that I have tried  which they describe as being “Double Beef Patty, American Cheese, Secret Sauce, middle bun, lettuce, onion, and pickle

This may sound a bit like a similar famous chain burger we may all have heard of. The difference is that this one is actually really good and of far superior quality. It is a bit of a mess to eat as there is a lot of stuff packed into the bun, but that is all part of the fun! 🙂

As I always say the Double beef patty is the dream, the melted cheese a perfect covering, the shredded lettuce and the onions fool you gently into thinking that this is marginally healthy and the middle bun is just there so that you know what we are pretending to mimic 🙂

If you like the burger that we are not going to name, then you will love this as it is a most satisfying and filling beast

They seem to have this special on fairly regularly so if you are lucky you may well find it on the board when you visit

The Secret Flipper

The Secret Flipper, another ‘new’ burger combination from Secret Burger Club is described on the menu as “Double Beef Patty, Candy Bacon, Double American Cheese, Ketchup, Mustard, Lettuce, Pickle, and Onion

It was the prospect of the candy bacon that drew me towards stumping up the £9 to try this one out and that was most certainly the highlight and the differentiator between this burger and their other regular burgers.

I don’t need to tell you again how good the double patty and cheese are, so this is basically all of that with the addition of super bacon! The other great bit of this burger is the simple sauce combination of the yellow mustard and the ketchup which is always a classic stalwart of any great burger.

Get this one for the bacon, its super crunchy and super sweet from the candiefication (not a real word), think maple syrup to the max on bacon and you are getting somewhere close!

That was just three of their Great Burgers to drool over! 🙂

Check out  their Facebook page,  their Twitter feed, and their Instagram profile as well to see when and where  the burger magic may be found.

I always find them here at the Nottingham Street Food Club
