Nottingham’s Greasy Spoon

Nottingham’s Greasy Spoon on Trinity Walk is as you might expect the sort of place that you might want to hunt down when in need of a breakfast. Not many places like to be called ‘Greasy Spoon‘ so I though that it was an interesting name to give yourself and to be honest I was really hoping that any breakfast that I was getting served was going to be really ‘down n durty‘, ‘cheap and cheerful’ and without any aspiration to be gourmet

Menu

When I first spotted this place last week, the menu in the window was really not giving much away. “Fried Stuff” was the section that I was interested in where they were just saying “Regular Breakfast” and “Large Breakfast” .

I needed to know more and I really needed to check them out, so as I had a day off I made a point of coming up for a visit ๐Ÿ˜‰

Regular Breakfast

On the chalkboard inside there was more detail, the “Regular Breakfasts” was essentially ‘1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg, 1 hash brown, mushrooms, beans and/or tomatoes, toast and a mug of tea’ for your outlay so I ordered one of those. The Large breakfast was basically the same only you get 2 of each thing.

I quite enjoyed this plateful, I liked that it wasn’t too fancy and I really liked that everything was cooked when I ordered and wasn’t just fished out of a serving tray. The sausage was the classic solid meaty effort, nothing to get too excited about, perfect greasy spoon level. The bacon was smoked and salty and cooked nicely.

Fried egg was perfectly done for me, nice soft runny egg, white just cooked enough so it was soft and not rubbery. Beans, Toast, and Mushrooms? well they were just beans and mushrooms and toast. The hash brown was actually nice, and I usually don’t like these pre-made ones but on this occasion I didn’t mind it at all

I liked that the spoon was standing up in my mug of tea, I think that was by design though and not just because it was a strongly brewed mug of builders tea. I also was quite tickled by the milk being served in a mini milk bottle, I though that was a nice touch

I enjoyed this breakfast at Nottingham’s Greasy Spoon. The lady serving was warm and friendly, the place was clean and bright and the food was cheap enough and cheerful enough to meet my idea of a classic ‘greasy spoon’.

I always like a place where tea, coffee and toast comes as part of the deal as that makes me feel liking I am somehow winning the breakfast situation and have come out on top of the deal ๐Ÿ™‚

They have ‘Fried Stuff’, ‘Things on Toast’, ‘Things in Toast’ and can do you a jacket Spud and a Filled Cob as well if you are not just focussed on stuffing your face with some Breakfast Filled action.

I might be back to have something lighter like ‘ Poached Egg on Toast’ for ยฃ2.49. However you know me, it is more likely that I would come back to take on the Large Breakfast just because of sheer gluttony ๐Ÿ™‚
