George’s Tradition Fish and Chip shop on Melton Road in West Bridgford is one of the chippies in the George’s group that is open and offering a ‘Click and Collect’ service.

I have missed Georges over the last month as I used to quite often pop in during lunchtime from work to take advantage of their excellent lunchtime deals (sausage,chips and gravy for 99p). Now at the moment their menu does not include those deals but I suppose if you wanted a small meal you could check out the kids menu 🙂

I don’t usually get involved in ordering takeaways but in the current lockdown it’s ‘click and collect’, or ‘delivery’ or ‘nothing’ if you want to get a meal from any restaurant.

Turns out that it is not that hard 🙂 You do have to register first, then on the George website there is a simple click and collect, where you choose what you want from the stripped down menu and then choose a time slot to turn up and collect.

I sound like a right luddite, I am pretty sure that this is what everyone else is doing all the time anyway 🙂

Large Scottish Haddock

I ordered a Large Haddock which was amazing, I do not know if that was partly because I have not had Fish and Chips for about 2 months or just because it is actually that good.

The crunch on the batter was just right, light and crisp, no sogginess anywhere to be seen or found. The meaty flesh of the fish inside was juicy, firm and clean tasting, it was so fresh

Haddock, Chips and Mushy Peas

There were less chips that I recall getting when I was able to go inside but then again there was an option to go large and maybe that was what I usually do. It did not really matter there was plenty to fill me up.

The mushy peas were green and vibrant but perhaps a little sweeter than I recall having here. I still enjoyed them though, it was all good in the hood as ‘someone’ might say

The sun was shining on my fish making it look even more golden and glorious, if only all food scoffing moments could look so magical

I confess that it was all such a treat to get Fish and Chips that I gobbled it down so fast, perhaps too fast, maybe I should have savoured it a little more.

It seems likely that is going to be the only way that I am going to be able to get my meals out for quite some time, so I figure that if this Food Blog has any life in it I am going to have to learn all about this ordering online world. Already started checking out Deliveroo, Just Eats, and Uber Eats as needs must 🙂

Georges Lock Down menu

Georges Tradition Fish and Chip shop in West Bridgford is located at 95 Melton Road. There is plenty of parking outside and plenty of space so you don’t have to get close to anyone.

I ordered online and picked a slot to collect, they shout your name, give you a friendly wave, and leave it on the table outside the door so you just pick it up off there. No contact , no problems.
