Jumbo Breakfast at Chocks Away in Nottingham Airport at Tollerton

Breakfast Time at Chocks Away

“Chocks Away” is the sort of place where you pop in for a simple bacon cob and end up with a massive plateful of lovely breakfast joy.

In fact I sometimes feel that the breakfast menu at Chocks Away is really masquerading as a kind of competition 🙂

Just how much can a man eat at lunch and not fall asleep at his desk in the afternoon? I mean it is not like I am actually flying a plane or anything, so I can have a little snooze afterwards 🙂

I feel that I have been here before staring at the chalk board and wondered just how greedy and hungry I am feeling. Many times I have pondered the possibility of whether or not I really could eat that “Hercules Breakfast”.

I have not tried yet but maybe one day the lure of ‘3 Bacon, 3 Sausage, 3 Eggs, Tomatoes, Beans, Mushrooms, Hash Browns, Black Pudding’, and 3 Slices of Toast, and an everlasting mug of tea will entice me enough to try!

The Jumbo Breakfast

Today though I got a little closer when I took on the “Jumbo Breakfast” which was ‘2 Bacon, 2 Sausage, 2 Eggs, Tomatoes, Beans, Mushrooms and 2 Slices of Toast’, with a big mug of tea!

Lets be honest that is still a great big hearty plateful for this man to work his way through!

There really is a lot to like about the breakfast here at the Chocks Away café. I love that they cook the bacon so that it is really nice and crispy, they make sure that all the fat is nicely rendered away. I like that they know how to cook the fried eggs properly so that I get a nice plump and soft white and a lovely runny egg yolk!

The sausage might not look much, in fact I know that they look to be on the ‘cheap and cheerful’ side, but they are actually pretty decent, meaty and solid, and with some taste of merit. If these are ‘catering’ sausages? well then I would like to meet the wholesaler 🙂

The mushrooms are kind of an afterthought, which was sad for me as I love to hang out with a ‘fungi’, they are the only downside and only because I am a big breakfast mushroom fan. The beans? well I used those to make ‘beans on toast’ thus getting an extra bonus snack.

The tinned tomatoes are just there in place of ketchup, maybe next time I will remember to decline them, with as much English politeness as I can muster. “Possibly, if you don’t mind, those tomatoes, well really not my thing, if you don’t mind” 🙂

The thing is that I know that this is a café and not somewhere fancy, and you know what I love the place just for that. No-one is pretending and everyone is bubbly and friendly. I suppose if I came here every other day I would have designed my own MyFoodHunt breakfast plate by now. That would probably just be the Egg, Bacon, Sausage, and perhaps a slice of Black Pudding? 🙂

Basically here at Chocks Away you are going to leave with a belly full of breakfast love! Ooh and they made a really nice mug of tea as well :-).

I have been to Chocks Away a fair number of times and have tried quite a lot of what they have to offer. I have written a couple of blog posts before about the place, and even though I try to hunt down new places, sometimes the tried and tested need to be championed as well 🙂

One day I will be back with that post about the Hercules Breakfast!! I promise 🙂

The Chock’s Away Cafe – Breakfast and Brunch at Tollerton Airport earlier this summer

“Chocks Away” cafe at Nottingham Airport in Tollerton back in 2013

“Chocks Away” is located at Nottingham City Airport just off Tollerton Ln, Tollerton, Nottingham NG12 4GA.

It is well signposted from the road, but the road seems to be going nowhere once you turn off, so  just keep driving down that long green road until you get to the Airport Car Park and Tower, then follow the sign through the door and keep on going until you smell the bacon cooking in the café 🙂

Check them out on their Facebook Page as well to see what they have on offer.
