Dumplings at Lanzhou Noodle bar

I love Lanzhou Beef Noodles on Market Street, so much so that I usually have a bowlful each week. The last time I wrote about them was back in December 2018 when I ate the whole menu (read more here)

Back then I was worried that they had closed, but it was just a small glitch as it turned out that they had just shut down for a bit to renovate the place and they reopened a week or so later.

Now inside it looks a lot better and dare I suggest a bit cleaner, I had no problems with the place as it was, I loved watching the man in the window pulling those fresh noodles to order, some people had a problem, but those people can just whistle for their supper in a vacuum in my opinion.

Now it seems that the place is calling itself Lanzhou Noodle bar, well at least in English. The sign outside still translates as Lanzhou Beef Noodles. They have all the same classic soup noodles and noodle plates, BUT very importantly in my world they have started serving up Dumplings. Oh yes, this makes me so happy πŸ™‚

Pork Dumplings at Lanzhou Noodle Bar

There is nothing quite like a freshly prepared dumpling, well apart from freshly made noodles but I digress for a brief moment. Here now at ‘Lanzhou Noodle bar‘ you can order a plateful of dumplings for Β£8.

The options are ‘Onion Beef’. ‘Egg and Chinese Chive’, and the classic I always crave ‘Cabbage and Pork’. Now the menu offers a plate of 12 dumplings which is a hell of a lot if you are having noodles as well! I tried to get a half plate, but in the moment I forgot my Chinese so ended up with a full plate. Well it has been at least 21 years since I lived there so give me a break πŸ™‚

Dumplings at Lanzhou

These dumplings were really good, freshly cooked and freshly made, you really don’t know how lucky you are that you can stroll up to Lanzhou on Market street to get these.

I pour my pot of chinese rice vinegar and some soy on the plate and joyously worked my way through all 12 of them one by one. They are smooth, silken, full of flavour, and slip down like no ones business, it seems to be a big plateful but you will have no problem in devouring them.

Braised Beef Noodles

There is no way that I can miss out an opportunity to highlight the amazing Braised beef soup noodles that they offer at Lanzhou Noodle bar.

I felt that this particular bowlful was even better than many I had eaten before here. I mean I had just shoved 12 dumpling down my gob so eating this as well should have been a real stretch, but it was not a problem it was a total joy as well.

The broth was rich and packed with meaty flavour and aromatics, the braised beef was plentiful, soft and tender. The noodles are the star and I always advise that you should leave them for a while so that they soak up some of the liquid as then they are even more amazing!

Spicy Chicken Noodles

The Braised Beef might be my favorite of all the soup noodles, but I also love the Spicy Chicken Noodles so I have been back a few times this year to slurp up a bowlful of those as well since they have reopened.

If you are slightly under the weather, through sickness or by self affliction on a Friday night, well these will sort you right out! Who needs a doctor, I know where to come to medicate

Now I know I have told you all about the Chicken Noodles and the Beef Noodles many times, but they are so good I just had to mention it again, this isn’t a one time deal!

Lanzhou Noodles is in my heart and I need them in my life for as long as I can have them.

Menu at Lanzhou Noodles

The prices on the menu have gone up a little since last year and my first posts and visits, but at Β£7.50 I think that it is still fantastic value for money. The free drink seems to have gone but they have free water on the side so it is still all good.

The man might not be pulling noodles in the window any more but you can still watch them at work in the open kitchen at the back of the room. Well you can if you stand up anyway πŸ™‚

I still like to sit near to the action, and I am still loving coming here for a bowlful of those fresh hand pulled noodle and now I am loving the opportunity to get my chopsticks on those freshly made dumplings as well.

All is good in my world

Lanzhou Beef Noodles or Lanzhou Noodle bar is located at 17 Market Street in Nottingham (that is the road that the tram runs up from the square past Debenhams)

I went here yesterday after finding your blog the other month, I couldn’t believe the portions! Super filling and really good value for money – the dumplings were divine and we dipped our fried dough sticks in the broth which was lovely πŸ™‚

    Thanks again for the recommendation!
